AdAge Newsflash: “Second Life Still a Waste of Time, Money”
A predictable opinion from AdAge, who seem to have particular disdain for social media, notably the blogosphere and Second Life. I am by no means an apologist for Second Life, but saying “Second Life is a waste of money” is like saying “All advertising is a waste of money”. (Hmmm…) Many companies have made virtual mis-steps, but Second Life shouldn’t be unilaterally ruled out more than any other communication channel… just make sure you meet objectives and define success metrics.

American Express Members Lounge
Very cool idea from American Express – a Members Lounge in Natick mall (I confess I have no idea where Natick is, apparently they have one in ShortHills Mall also). I recollect proposing similar iterations of this idea to clients over the years … excellent Branded Utility … great that someone has actually done it … The Lounge features a seating area with couches, refreshments, private restrooms, free gift-wrap services, phone and iPod charging stations and an e-mail station for cardmembers. Consumers not holding an American Express Card can apply onsite for the card to gain access to the lounge. UPDATE: I now learn that Natick is near Boston, Mass. Thanks, John!

Sorry on being geographically biased, Natick is a charming suburb about 18 miles west of Boston, Mass.
